Homemade croutons are better in taste and texture than the store-bought version and they are so simple to make.


  • 4 ounces Butter unsalted
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove, smashed
  • 1 load Italian or French bread (10 ounces or 6 cups), cut into cubes


  1. In a large skillet, heat the butter and oil with the garlic clove until sizzling.
  2. Pour oil mixture over bread cubes, toss, and then return to pan.
  3. Heat over medium heat and, turning as they brown, cook them until evenly toasted.
  4. Serve immediately.
